Potty Training SUCCESS

I am so happy and proud to say that James is almost 100% daytime potty trained, just over 3 weeks after starting!

A big huge shout out to my old high school friend Tina for giving me the best piece of advice that really truly worked for our little guy. She said that when their oldest was within a few months of his 3rd birthday they started to tell him that when he turned 3 that he was going to be a big boy and wear only underwear.

We had hoped to have James trained long before his birthday, however we knew in our hearts that until we could be home with him and be consistent 100% that it wasn't going to work. Our sitter, although she's absolutely wonderful, had made it perfectly clear in the months leading up to my going on maternity leave that he wasn't able to go there in underwear until he was telling us he had to pee (which he rarely did unless he wanted to get out of bed to get our attention!)

He first went into pull-ups last July and he had been going on the potty every single day since then, with many many wet pull-ups of course but at least he got the idea of where he was supposed to go pee. I really truly believe that this has helped in the easy and complete potty training success in just 3 short weeks.

For 2 full months before his 3rd birthday we did as Tina had and started to tell James that he would go into underwear on the day after his party and there was no turning back because he was a big boy, and big boys wear underwear and babies wear diapers. As I got closer to being done work and his birthday I realized that we were absolutely right to have waited. He had finally started just a few days before his birthday to sometimes tell us he had to go so we knew that within a few days (and probably an accident or two) that he would get it....well boy did he ever!

Just one big full pee accident two days after being in underwear and we've had nothing but tiny small "oops, I left it a bit too long and I'm gonna run for it now" accidents. He is now telling us all the time if he has to pee and tonight for the first time he even told me had to poop as well. We were some of the VERY lucky few that he was actually poop potty trained LONG before he was pee potty trained. Guess he knows how we feel about poopy diapers?!?!

Anyways, that was a long post and if you aren't a parent you probably haven't even read this far, but if you did, all I can say is how really honestly proud I am of our awesome big little guy and his awesome potty training accomplishments.

And because there is no truly great post without a photo...here is a cute one of him in his little Lightning McQueen underwears.
