Jordan’s Monthly Photos with Harris

Happy 1st Birthday Jordie Boy!

I know I'm almost 2 months late in posting this, but hey, life got super busy just after his birthday when I started a new job that has found me 10x more busy than I ever could have ever imagined I would/could be. I thought I was busy before...nothing like I am these days!

Anyways, back to my big dear sweet Jordie boy. I can't believe how fast the past year has gone since you arrived into our family.

Your birth was an incredible experience and seeing James meet you for the first time was a moment that I know I will never forget. Watching you get bigger and bigger...and yet even bigger, made me realize just how different two kids could be. You are a loving, happy and mischievous little guy that lights up our days and makes our nights even better because you have been sleeping through the night since you were just 2 months old!

The last month of your first year was filled with some fun times and some awesome firsts too.

You finally got your fourth tooth and were much happier once it broke through the skin. Overall you are a pretty great teether, without any drooling and not too much misery.

We travelled to Vancouver to spend the afternoon and night with the Reimer family. We stayed in a hotel and you slept terrible but woke up happy. The trip home was a long one as you aren't a fan of your car seat on long trips and you screamed your handsome little head off for the first 30 minutes of the peninsula. I thought Daddy was going to lose his mind. At least I had the distraction of driving to keep me occupied.

You are a very independent little guy that LOVES his food. You love to feed yourself anything that we give you, but your favorites are definitely cheese, blueberries, banana, strawberries, bread, cheerios, puffies, pasta and any kind of meat you can get your hands on. You devour any meat you can and it is often the first thing you will eat if given the opportunity. You also still don't mind being fed some of your favorites like yogurt and apple sauce. You aren't a huge fan of milk but we are working on it. You are still getting just one bottle of formula at night before bed while you get your stories. In the 2 months since your birthday you have become very possessive about that bottle and cry every night when it's empty. We will be transitioning to just sippy cups in the next few weeks and I'm sure we'll have a few rough nights ahead of us when we do. You drink from them great during the day, but after your bath you know what's next and as soon as you see me head to the kitchen you start to whine and cry until you get the bottle in your mouth. We kept giving it to you after your birthday because for those first few weeks you barely were drinking anything because you weren't a fan of the milk, or the sippy cup so this way I knew you were getting at least one good drink per day. We have of course cut back the amount of the bottle, but you are still very attached to that time of the day and the moments you spend with Mommy.

Your bedtime routine consists of your bottle, stories, teeth brushing and then you snuggle up with Mommy while I sing your favorite bedtime song...O Canada! You give me big kisses and hugs and then I lay you down wide awake, turn on Scout and leave the room. You usually fall asleep very quickly, but if not you are more than content to just play quietly till you fall asleep. If you do wake at night then most often you are able to put yourself back to sleep, unless you are sick or teething, then sometimes you want mommy to just snuggle you for a moment so you can fall back to sleep. Overall you are a very easy going baby when it comes to sleeping, and before your birthday you were still napping twice every single day. You definitely take after your Mama in how much you love to sleep! :)

We spent a big chunk of your last month as a baby at Nana and Papa's while they were house sitting. You started to cruise along furniture really easily, and you took your first steps between Mommy and Daddy just under 2 weeks before your birthday and within 4 days of your first birthday you started fully walking. Mommy first saw you walk across the kitchen at the Slacks house and from that day on you haven't stopped, or gone back to crawling at all. You are a moving machine these days!

As well as being a mover, you are a risky little climber too. Even before your first birthday you used a chair to climb up onto Nana and Papa's love seat and I looked over from the kitchen and saw you standing there leaning against the back of it with this cheeky little smile as if you say "what are you gonna do about it Mom?" You scared the daylights out of me and I realized that my life was never going to be the same again and you would need to be watched very closely from now on. In the months since your birthday you have juts become even more risky and twice as cheeky too! You know you aren't allowed to climb but yet you do it anyways, I think just to see my reaction sometimes! :)

Mommy left you overnight with Auntie Ra while she went to Vancouver to see a show with Uncle Ben. You did really well and when you cried when we got disconnected on FaceTime, James patted your back and said "It's okay Jordie, your mom will come back some day."

Your relationship with your brother is one that fascinates me every single day. You love to be where he is, doing what he is doing and watching every move he makes. You love to bath with him and splash water everywhere, which drives me completely batty but seeing you two interact brings a smile to my face. Your best and biggest hugs and kisses are always saved for him and I couldn't be happier to see it.

Speaking of hugs and kisses, you are the best hugger and kisser. You also love to snuggle and wrap your arms around people's necks and squeeze, but you are also picky about who you do it to and when you choose to do it. It's always on your terms, you are definitely not one to do anything on command!

You started going to a babysitter in the week that you turned 1 and you have absolutely fallen in love with her. Her name is Sheri and she and her daughters just adore you and James. We love having her as part of your world and I see how much you are growing and changing when you are with them. I'm happy to see you so happy there when I come to pick you up after work.

Your weight stayed high throughout your first year and you weighed in the day before your birthday at a whopping 27 lbs, 5 oz and 32" long. Considering you started out as 8 lbs even and 21.25" long you are definitely a big baby! Your brother wasn't nearly that big until he was over 18 months old. But also considering you hit 25 lbs at 8 months you definitely slowed down growing a lot in the past 4 months, which mommy's sore back thanks you for!

You aren't much for talking, but you will babble mamamama sometimes, and once in awhile something that sounds like nanananan but other than that, absolutely nothing! You are actually a pretty quiet little guy most of the time. (Note: in the two months since you turned 1 you have started to "talk" more and make a lot more noise, but still no real words except Mama.)

The day before you turned 1 you also had your first haircut by Auntie Ra. You did really well and just kind of looked at her like "what the hell are you doing Auntie Ra?" It was funny and totally adorable to see. We'll see if you freak out the next time we attempt it or whether you will continue to be relaxed and chill about it.

Your first birthday was a great day spent with Daddy home on days off. A pancake breakfast and FaceTime visit with Nana and Papa from Europe, playtime and visit with Mommy's friend Shannon, outside playtime on your new castle that you got for your birthday, dinner at Magpie's diner and then a yummy chocolate cupcake for dessert. Overall it was a fantastic day celebrating you and the little boy you are becoming.

Daddy and I...and James too of course...love you so much little man and truly cherish the person you are and can't wait to see the kind of person you will become. \

And to go back to the very beginning again one last time!

Now Harris will get a 6 month break before being brought out again for your 18 month photos...which are now only 4 months away. :)
